What We Do
We document coffee traceability directly at the origin, with the producer, so European roasters and importers can comply with the EUDR without relying on seals or an intermediary’s word.
We document three things: which plot the coffee comes from, who cultivated it, and what price they received for it.
Why We Exist
For years, the coffee industry has created seals to avoid truly looking at the origin. Certifications allowed buyers to purchase with peace of mind without knowing a thing: not where the coffee came from, nor who cultivated it, nor how much they were paid.
Now Europe requires exact proof of what those seals never demonstrated. The EUDR mandates proving, with coordinates and documentation, that the coffee does not come from deforested land. A logo is no longer enough.
We see that this can be an advantage toward more conscious consumption. However, we also see the risk: that the burden of proof falls entirely on those with the narrowest margins, and that in three years, “deforestation-free” coffee only comes from large estates with data management capabilities. That the very law meant to protect the forest ends up driving out of the European market the exact people who safeguard it.
We work to ensure that doesn’t happen.
Who Is Behind This
I’m Marta.
I started out at a London creperie where coffee was just another line item on the menu, until a training session shifted my whole perspective: behind every cup were deeply rooted stories, cultures, and inequalities. What struck me most was the stark contrast between the countries growing coffee through infinite effort and those of us drinking it almost mindlessly.
Years in specialty coffee shops across London, Madrid, and Barcelona followed. In every one of them, people talked about fair trade and transparency. In none of them did I find a genuine connection to the farms.
Today, I work in operations and supply chain management, applying those principles to coffee: documentation, traceability, and processes. The same obsession as back then, just with better tools.
How We Work
The data belongs to the producer. If the farmer walks the perimeter of their land, that polygon is theirs. Not the exporter’s, not the importer’s, and not ours. We simply hold it in trust on their behalf.
Traceability without a fair price is incomplete. Documenting the origin without documenting what the producer was paid means fulfilling the letter of the regulation without actually solving the problem.
We assist; we do not police. We document what the producer chooses to share. We do not monitor anyone to verify “compliance.”
We do not promise what we haven’t proven. If something is a work in progress, we state clearly that it is under construction.
